Magic Hat — Play Free Online

Free memory game — instant play, no signup, no download

Magic Hat shows you a ball going under one of five hats, shuffles them, and asks where it is. It is a tracking game with a memory edge: ten rounds, and the shuffle is fast enough that you cannot follow every hat, only yours.

How to play

Watch the ball go under one of the five hats.

The hats lift and shuffle positions rapidly.

Follow the hat holding the ball.

Click it when the shuffling stops.

Ten rounds, getting faster as you go.

What it actually trains

Single-object tracking among identical distractors. Five hats is above the comfortable limit for most people, which is why the later rounds separate scores so sharply.

Tips to score higher

Track the position, not the hat. The hats are identical so position is the only real cue.

Do not blink during a swap.

Watch with soft focus so you can see two hats at once during a crossing.

If you lose it, pick the hat nearest where you last had it rather than guessing at random.

Frequently asked questions

Is the shuffle fair?

Yes. The ball stays under its hat for the whole animation.

Why five hats?

Three is comfortable for nearly everyone. Five sits right at the edge of typical tracking capacity, which is where the game gets interesting.

Does it speed up?

Yes, across the ten rounds.

How is this different from Cup Shuffle?

Same family of task. Magic Hat runs a fixed ten rounds with a hard speed ramp; Cup Shuffle grows the number of cups instead.
