Final Fantasy X vs Persona 5 Royal
The short answer
Play Final Fantasy X if you want a classic, linear JRPG with a strong ending and turn-based battles that are easy to read. Play Persona 5 Royal if you want a very long game where school life, friendships and a calendar matter as much as the dungeons. They scratch different itches despite both being turn-based JRPGs.
What they have in common
Turn-based combat that rewards exploiting weaknesses, a young cast on a pilgrimage against a corrupt order, and a lot of cutscenes. Both are considered among the best in their series.
Pick Final Fantasy X for a focused story.
The journey is mostly a straight line, and the turn order is shown on screen so you can plan every move and swap party members mid-fight. The Sphere Grid lets you shape characters without drowning you in menus. The HD Remaster is the version to play today.
Games like Final Fantasy X →Pick Persona 5 Royal for the life-sim.
Half the game is deciding how to spend each day — classes, part-time jobs, time with friends — and those choices power up your party. The other half is stylish dungeon-crawling in the Palaces. It is a very long game; go in expecting to spend a school year with it.
