Silent Hill 2 vs Resident Evil 4
The short answer
They are barely the same genre. Silent Hill 2 is psychological horror where the combat is deliberately bad and the story is the point. Resident Evil 4 is an action game with horror trappings and excellent combat. Pick by whether you want to be unsettled or entertained.
What they have in common
Both are landmark survival horror, and both have modern remakes that are worth playing.
Pick Silent Hill 2 if you want the story.
One of the few games whose writing genuinely earns comparison outside the medium. The fog, the sound design and the restraint do the work. Fighting is not fun and is not meant to be.
Pick Resident Evil 4 if you want to play.
Tight, generous, endlessly replayable, and the pacing never sags. Horror as a setting rather than a feeling.
