Pattern Copy — Play Free Online

Free memory game — instant play, no signup, no download

Pattern Copy shows a pattern and asks you to reproduce it exactly. Unlike a recall test, the emphasis is on precision — getting most of it right is not the same as getting it right, and the scoring reflects that.

How to play

A pattern is displayed.

Study it, then it is hidden or you begin copying.

Reproduce the pattern cell by cell.

Every cell must match exactly.

Patterns grow more complex as you progress.

What it actually trains

Visual pattern memory with a precision requirement. Approximate memory is much easier than exact memory, and this task only rewards the second.

Tips to score higher

Encode structure, not cells. Symmetry, repetition and shapes compress the pattern enormously.

Check for symmetry first. A symmetric pattern is half as much to remember.

Reproduce in a consistent order — top left to bottom right — so you never lose your place.

Count the filled cells during the study phase as a checksum.

Frequently asked questions

Does exact reproduction matter?

Yes. Partial matches score partially, but a complete copy is what advances the round.

Is symmetry common in the patterns?

Often enough that checking for it first is worthwhile.

How is this different from Brick Collapse?

Brick Collapse asks you to click remembered positions. This asks you to construct the pattern, which is a finer-grained demand.

Best strategy for complex patterns?

Find the underlying structure. Nobody memorises twenty cells; they memorise three rules.
