Times Table Grid gives you a multiplication grid with the answers removed and asks you to fill it in against the clock. Because the grid is filled cell by cell in a shuffled order, you never get to lean on the rhythm of a row — each cell is a genuine retrieval. It is the fastest way to find out which facts are actually automatic and which ones you have been reciting your way to.

How to play

Pick a grid size and press Start — the clock runs for ninety seconds.

A cell is highlighted; type the product of its row and column.

A correct answer fills the cell in and highlights the next one.

Skip a cell you cannot recall and it comes back at the end.

Your score is cells filled, and the grid shows what you completed.

What it actually trains

Retrieval of multiplication facts out of order. Reciting a table in sequence uses the previous answer as a cue; a shuffled grid removes that cue, so what is left is whether the fact itself is stored. That is the version that transfers to real arithmetic.

Tips to score higher

Work the cells you know instantly and leave the rest. Coming back with a shorter list is easier than grinding.

The grid is symmetrical — if you filled 7 × 8, you already know 8 × 7. Look for the mirror cell.

The diagonal is the squares. Getting those solid gives you every neighbouring cell for one addition.

Fewer than twenty cells in the grid are genuinely hard. Find yours and drill only those.

What size grid should I use?

12 × 12 is the classic school grid and covers day-to-day arithmetic. The 10 × 10 grid is a gentler start; the larger grid is worth it once the twelves are automatic.

Is the grid filled in order?

No — the cells come up shuffled on purpose. Filling a row in order lets the previous answer cue the next one, which hides whether the fact is really known.

Why does the grid have a symmetrical half?

Because the order of the factors does not change the product. Half the grid mirrors the other half, which is why there are far fewer facts to learn than there are cells.

What is a good time to fill a 12 by 12 grid?

Compare against your own previous runs rather than a target. What matters is that the number of cells you can fill without pausing goes up.
