Word Scramble gives you jumbled letters to rearrange into a word. It is the classic anagram format, and the skill it builds — recognising a word from a disordered set of letters — is the same one that makes crosswords and word games easier.
Scrambled letters appear.
Rearrange them into a valid English word.
Type or arrange your answer.
Correct answers load the next scramble.
Words get longer as you progress.
A game is 10 words from the category you choose (animals, science, tech, food or sports), with 30 seconds for each. Tap the letter tiles in order; tapping a chosen tile again removes it.
A correct word scores three points for every second left, with a minimum of 40, so a word solved in five seconds is worth 75. A hint places the next correct letter for a cost of 25 points. Your best total is saved in this browser.
Anagram solving and letter-pattern recognition. The improvement comes from building a library of letter chunks you recognise instantly, not from rearranging faster. More word games to try next: Missing Letter and Letter Hunt. Every game in this family is on the word and language games page.
Solving anagrams is a classic task in problem-solving research because solutions arrive in two ways: by systematically trying letter combinations, or suddenly, as insight. A 2003 study found that skilled solvers produce more of their answers by sudden insight, drawing on better-organised knowledge of how words are built.
That is why common letter patterns — -ING, -TION, CH, TH, consonant-vowel alternation — help so much: they cut the number of arrangements you need to consider.
Find common endings first: ING, ION, EST, TION.
Pull out the vowels. English alternates vowels and consonants fairly regularly, which constrains positions hard.
Look for common letter pairs: TH, CH, SH, QU.
Say the letters aloud in a different order. Hearing a fragment often triggers recognition when looking does not.
Yes, every scramble is built from a standard English word list.
Sometimes. Any valid English word using exactly those letters is accepted.
Anagram Hunt is a 60-second sprint. Word Scramble progresses through increasing word lengths without the clock dominating.
Chunk recognition. Strong solvers see TION as one unit, not four letters.
